New to the League
Is your daughter ready to play Select Ball?
Do They Stand Out in Rec Ball?
Are they one of the key players on the team? Bat at the top of the line-up?
For pitchers, have they pitched at least 20 games? Have several pitches they throw – change up, drop, curve, cutter, fastball, or rise ball.
Are they able to comfortably compete at the next age level/division?
Is Your Daughter Interested/Loves the Fast Pitch Game?
Do they often talk about their games? Sport? Friends that play?
Is Your Daughter and Your Family Willing to Make the Time Commitment?
Select Ball usually consumes entire weekends schedules. .
Select Ball fees are higher.
Most Select Ball teams require players to practice twice during the week and many girls have “specialty” coaches (pitching, batting, catching, position specific, etc.).
Divisions are based on the following dates:
6u : Birthdays starting 1/1/2014 through 12/31/2015
8u : Birthdays starting 1/1/2012 through 12/31/2013
10u (Rec and Select) : Birthdays starting 1/1/2010 through 12/31/2011
12u : (Rec and Select) Birthdays starting 1/1/2008 through 12/31/2009
14u : (rec and Select) Birthdays starting 1/1/2006 through 12/31/2007
Equipment including balls, bases, and catchers gear is provided by the league.
You will need to provide:
Softball Fielder’s Glove
Batting Helmet
Bat
Cleats
Fielding Mask (required when playing an infield position)
Note: Due to COVID restrictions, players will not be allowed to share equipment.

Uniform (jersey, visor and socks)
*Softball pants are provided by the parents and must match the team colors)

Spring Season Team Pictures
Equipment bag per team (includes softballs for practice, catcher gear, score book, first aid kit, etc.)
Softballs for Games
Trophies and other end of year expenses (received by all 6U players and some teams 8U-14U based on playoffs)
The days and times of practices are determined by each coach.
Most coaches practice during the week in the late afternoon/early evening.
This is a general guide of the number of practices usually scheduled by a coach in each age division*:
6U = 1 practice week
8U = 1 or 2 practices per week
10U = 2 practices per week
12U = 2 or 3 practices per week
14U = 2 or 3 practices per week
*Coaches have absolute discretion to change the number and days of practices.
Games are typically on Saturdays, and sometimes Sundays, in the spring season, and Sundays in the fall season.
All weekend game times are usually between 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
Teams in divisions 8U and older will also have some weekday games. Weekdays games usually begin at 4:00 or 4:30 p.m.
*These times are not guaranteed, but merely to be used as a general guide.
NMGS League Refund Policy is as follows:
Refunds (minus any costs and fees incurred by the league) are only given up and until the player evaluation date. Once player evaluations are conducted, no refunds are granted.
To request a refund, you must submit your request in writing and email it to the league before 11:59 p.m. on the day of player evaluations.

Newport Mesa Girls Softball does offer clinics from time to time for a separate registration fee.
The league also notifies registered players about local clinics hosted by other organizations in our area.
For coaches, there is a mandatory coaches clinic prior to the start of the spring season.

The funds are used to off-set the costs of the league and keep registration fees as low as possible. This allows our league to be more accessible to as many players as possible.
